I always felt that trekking is not my cup of tea. When My friends used to ask me about trekking, My reply was fixed. “Kon karega yaar pahad ki Chadai”. Moreover I have a fear of trekking. Its not that I haven’t done any trek in my life, I did one at Sinhgad fort and other one at kalvanti Durga but both time I was last to reach on top with almost no energy at end of trek.
The day me and Priya got in relationship, she told me that one of her dream was to trek with her husband and I was like this is last thing I wanted to be my wife’s wish. But I couldn’t say Pahad Kon chadhega, Actually I didn’t wanted to show her my fear of trekking in start of our relationship. So I knew one thing in my mind that I have to take her to trekking in coming months Post our marriage. Few days back I read article about one of our known uncle successfully completed trekking for lingana fort , one of most difficult trek and then I realised to test my fitness level I should try Trekking as well only marathons and cycling won’t do. And then our search of trekking place started, Initially I thought lets start with the simple one like Shivneri,Sihangad. But while searching we came to know about trekfit a group of Trekkers is organising trekking at Vasota Fort Including a night camping with stay in Tent near koyana back waters. When I asked the volunteers at trekfit he said its simple trek . So I was pretty happy that I will get chance to do camping plus trekking. And we quickly registered for it.
So as per plan we were supposed to gather at Swargate and from there to a camping site which was around 65 km to a small village called bonmil. We reached to our destination at 1 am. After amazing Campfire session, we slept at 4am just to wake up at 6 am for trek.
To reach Vasota Fort base we need to travel by boat from Bonmil. It’s around 1 and half ferry. We reached based at 10.30 and started our trek for Vasota. First half hour was mostly hiking but what easy looking trek become tough after a half hour. It took around 1 and half hour to reach on top with mesmerising view from top and few points to click photos. The one and half hour trekking is not simple at all may be because it was our initial experience at trekking. Me and Priya kept ourselves motivated to reach on top. To check my fitness level, I would give my self 7.5 out of 10 because because While returning back My legs started giving up. Its was tough while going down. At around 3 PM we reached to base of the Vasota.
The most important part about vasota you wont see much of plastic garbage on way of your trek because forest department do check your bags while going up and they ask you to pay deposits according to number of plastics things you are carrying. And if the number of plastic are reduced after coming back then you will have to pay fine. For example if you have 2 water bottles and once you back if the bottles are less then you have to pay a fine. I think maharashtra gov follow this rule to all Places specially on Fort sites.
Overall it was the best experience for me and my wife. We got superb confidence to do more trekking. Hopefully our 2018 resolution is to do some more trek to take our fitness level to next level.
